May 1, 2021 PLISD Bond Election

The Prairie Lea ISD School Board Voted Unanimously to Approve a $7.6 Bond Referendum

The Prairie Lea ISD school board voted unanimously during its February 11, 2021 meeting to approve a $7.6 million bond referendum on the May 1, 2021 election ballot to address current and future student growth in the district.  

May 1, 2021 Board Trustee Election

Prairie Lea ISD currently has 5 Provisional Ballots that may be countable.  Also, there could still be outstanding military and overseas ballots.  May 7th is the deadline for them to be received by the election office.  The Guadalupe County Early Voting Ballot Board will be meeting on May 10th to process any countable ballots that fall into the previously mentioned categories.  The PLISD Board of Trustees will canvass votes at their regular meeting scheduled for May 12, 2021 @ 6:00 PM.  The following link will take you to the unofficial results of Prairie Lea ISD's Bond and Trustee Election.  Thank you.

2021 Board Trustee Election Information

Four seats on the Prairie Lea Independent School District school board in Texas are up for general election on May 1, 2021.  The filing deadline for this election is February 12, 2021 at 5:00 PM.  See the notice below for physical, mailing and email addresses to file an application.

Requirements for a Candidate:
The requirements for being a trustee on the Board of Trustees for the District may be found at Board Policy BBA (Legal), which may be accessed by clicking on the following link:

An application of a candidate for a place on the election ballot must be filed with the District’s Board Secretary or the Secretary’s designated agent at the District’s central office location not later than 5:00 p.m. of the 78th day before the date of the election and not earlier than the 30th day before the date of the filing deadline, as per Education Code Section 11.055.

Prairie Lea ISD Board of Trustees is comprised of seven local citizens who serve as the legal agent of the State of Texas in carrying out the will of the citizens of the Prairie Lea Independent School District in the matters of public education. The Prairie Lea ISD Board of Trustees is charged with making policy for the school district. Trustees are unpaid volunteers who serve four-year terms.

Voters in Prairie Lea elect school board members in November or May.  In addition to making policy, the Board also hires the superintendent of schools, holds monthly (usually the second Thursday of each month) business meetings to conduct the business of the district, approve employment and termination of personnel, approves the budget and sets the tax rate, approves property purchases, approves new building plans, awards bids, hears grievances of employees, students and citizens of the district and authorizes collection, disbursement and auditing of funds.  

Current state law requires a candidate for trustee of an independent school district to be a qualified voter by the time required as prescribed by Election Code Section 141.001.  An application for place on the ballot must be filed with the Elections Administrator located at the Prairie Lea ISD Administration Building, 6910 San Marcos Hwy 80, Prairie Lea, TX  78661.

Notice is hereby given that applications for a place on the Prairie Lea ISD Board of Trustees Regular Election Ballot may be filed during the following time:
Start date: Wednesday, January 13, 2021

End Date:  Friday, February 12, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.
Office Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
