Student Registration Information

Pre-Kindergarten Information:

  • Prairie Lea ISD Pre-kindergarten program is for qualifying children, only. Students must be 4 years of age on September 1 and must also meet the following criteria:
    - is unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or

  • is educationally disadvantaged (which means a student eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program)

  • is homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child; or

  • is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or

  • is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or

  • is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code

  • is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as: a peace officer under Section 3106.002, Government Code; a firefighter under Section 3106.003, Government Code; or an emergency medical first responder under Section 3106.004, Government Code

Required Documents:

  • Student's Birth Certificate

  • Student's Social Security Card

  • Student's Shot Record

  • Parent's ID

  • Proof of Physical Address within Prairie Lea ISD school district boundaries

NEW STUDENT ENROLLMENT FOR 2024-2025

Qualifying students 4 years of age on or before Sept. 1st are eligible for Pre-K enrollment.

Required documents for ALL new enrolling students in Pre-K through 12:

  • Student's Birth Certificate

  • Student's Social Security Card

  • Student's Current Immunization Records (to be verified by District)

  • Enrolling Parent/Guardian's Driver's License

  • *Proof of Residency in the Prairie Lea ISD (utility bill, or mortgage or rental agreement)

*Proof of Residency means:

  • Current utility bill tied directly to the residential address (electric, water, landline phone or cable/satellite service)

    1. Current rental/lease agreement

    2. Mortgage statement

    3. Cell phone bills are not considered a residential utility.

*ALL new students to PLISD (including Prairie Lea ISD residents and Transfer Students) must register with a parent or legal guardian IN PERSON at Prairie Lea High School (6th-12th grades) or at Prairie Lea Elementary School Office (PK-5th grades).

Transferring from another Texas Public School:

For students transferring from another Texas Public School District: Most academic records can be obtained through the state's Texas Record Exchange (T-Rex).  

Non-resident Transfers: 

Prairie Lea ISD is not required to enroll students who do not live inside the district's boundaries. However, PLISD may accept transfers depending on certain criteria including but not limited to your child's attendance, grades and discipline. This criterion is submitted to the PLISD Transfer Committee and is carefully reviewed before making a final decision on whether the district will accept the out of district transfer student. This review process may take 3-5 days to complete. If you are interested in enrolling your out of district student, please email foresters@plisd.net to start the transfer review process.

Determining Residency:

  • To verify your residence is in district boundaries - Search Caldwell County Appraisal District's website.

  • Addresses can be searched by address, owner, and other parameters.

  • After locating your address: Click the "View Details" link.

  • From this page click on "Taxing Jurisdiction"

  • From this next page: Locate the school district that assesses taxes for your property.

  • The district indicated will be the home district for your child or children.

If you cannot determine your residence's school district from this search, it may be necessary to contact the Caldwell County Appraisal District Office at 512-398-5550.
